Buttonwood International Group Capability

Japanese and U.S. Company Tie-up Relationships

Our consulting approach provides a "balanced viewpoint" by drawing on experience in the securities industry, marketing, information technology and operations.  Our industry knowledge spans the financial services industry in the areas of capital markets, the securities industry, global custody and information technology systems.

Since 1988, Buttonwood International has provided consulting services to major Japanese and U.S. companies.   Typically, clients retain our services on a proprietary basis with all work product developed for their exclusive use.   In addition, our extensive business network allows for collaborative studies, i.e. participating sponsors contributing and sharing in the study results.  In all cases, engagements are conducted on a strictly confidential basis.

Typical assignments include market research of new trends, developments and/or emerging technologies in the financial services industry.  Research is complemented by interviews with industry practitioners who provide practical insights and current thinking about the issues at-hand.  Study results are presented at either the client's venue of choice or at our company headquarters on Wall Street.  We have visited Japan and other Asian countries on numerous occasions for these purposes.

Our research provides a basis for clients to meet company executives in the U.S. and/or Japan for an information exchange about the requested study topic.  We arrange “executive level meetings” for our clients with the commitment of ensuring a mutual benefit to both parties.   Many times, these introductions lead to an on-going relationship and the pursuit of a joint-venture company opportunity.

If requested, Japanese clients are provided with language interpretation and/or document translation services.  Also, video conferencing facilities are available to reduce the expense and delays associated with travel.   Buttonwood International has arranged meetings between Japanese companies and various entities, for example: U.S. and international banks, brokerage firms, mutual fund companies, asset managers, transfer agent companies, major technology vendors, application systems providers, regulatory agencies, and various securities industry technology companies.

The Global Custody Yearbook

Buttonwood International is also an independent publisher of The Global Custody Yearbook.   Since1993, we have collaborated with the world’s largest global custodians to explore current trends, new products/service offerings and topical industry issues.   Our current publication roll-out is three titles, prepared annually, with active participation by the world's largest global custodians.   Buttonwood’s Global Custody Yearbook series is a well-known and established industry standard.
